The Schizophrenia Research Fund
Founded by the Late Sir Evelyn de Rothschild for his relative Miriam who had a sister who was afflicted by the brain disease, schizophrenia. Also known as The Miriam Rothschild Schizophrenia Research Fund, is a charity based foundation with the purpose of finding a cure for the mentally ill.
The Rothschild family warms my heart and reminds me a bit of my own family with their philanthropic spirit. We are not bankers, but are doctors and after my time with homelessness, my Father became the President of the Homeless Shelter in downtown Oshawa, Ontario where I stayed when I was suffering from early stages of Schizoaffective Disorder. It was before I knew what was happening with my mind and the Denise House kept me safe and warm and off the streets. My Father works as a Chiropractor and Health Clinic business owner in the downtown core of Oshawa, Ontario Canada. And at 70 years old, he is getting ready to retire within the next year. He has continually supported me as a caregiver along with my mother.
Medicine for schizophrenia can be very expensive. I was once on an antipsychotic that costed $1500 per month. Luckily, my disability benefits covered the cost. I am lucky to live and work in Canada. It was a serious medicine, and even though the side effects could be extremely bad, I was able to have my first relationship post psychosis with my now Husband, S. Which is tremendous progress and a success. I think they charge a lot for antipsychotic medicines due to the fact that they are continually doing research into discovering the framework of the illness and alleviating symptoms for the mentally ill.
I have a mixed background. I am about 23 degrees separation from Anthony de Rothschild, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild’s father, I know through my mom’s lineage with French Nobility and Chief of the Ojibwa, that we have Jewish in us as well as Scandinavian. I am also 15 degrees family separation from Emily Dickenson and 19 degrees from French Royalty through Francois VI of the Languedoc area in France and 25 degrees from Princess Diana Spencer. We didn’t inherited wealth like some of you after the Napoleonic wars, my family relied on the Native’s troubles and my parents are self-made. My grandfather was a Chiropractor and so was his Aunt. My sister also became a Chiropractor too. My brother, who I haven’t mentioned yet, is also a person living with Schizophrenia. Today he lives independently and has a diploma as a mechanical technician. He is not currently working, and enjoying his time at the skateboard park.
Research and clinical studies are extremely important to the progress of antipsychotic medicines. We have to keep donating and buying a our medicines at a gross price so scientists can continue their work in the field of mental health as they look for the cure.

I’m drunk and losing my train of thought… Gin and tonic is my poison. But I think that education is very important and I will continue to fight this fight with schizoaffective Disorder so this world can have me stable and I can contribute to a better tomorrow. My love for the world is endless, and I hope we can make this place better for ourselves, seniors and our children.
Goodnight for now <3
